Why doesn’t Google like me?
It’s a question many business owners ask themselves over and over again “Why doesn’t Google like my website?” It’s a problem that has a lot of weight attached to it. If Google isn’t pulling your website up in the first page of searches, then it’s going to be difficult for people to find your business and ultimately attract new customers.
The good news is there is a solution to this conundrum. SEO. Yes, those three letters that make your website shiver in fright. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is Google’s best pal, they are like peas in a pod. One will not happen without the other. SEO is the reason that Google likes websites and rewards them with valuable ranking positions.
Here are some quick tips that you as a business owner can check and give your website a helping hand to become one of Google’s new BFF’s.
Speed of your website: If pages are taking forever to load, this will not only annoy search engines but your visitors as well. Your website has a very small window (usually up to 4 seconds) to make a good first impression. Also, make sure all of your links to your internal webpages are working. If your website or particular pages are taking too long to load, speak with your website designer on how it can be rectified.
No new content: This is where Blogs come in handy. Blogs are a great way of getting new content and information onto your website on a regular basis. If your last blog past was 18 months ago when Julia Gillard was still prime minister, the content isn’t going to be overly relevant with today’s on-line searches. Search engines LOVE new information and your blogs only have to be a couple of paragraphs long.
Keeping it original: Copy and Paste is not your friend when it come’s to filling up pages of content on your website. Visitors will not return to your website for information if the same information is on a number of pages. Google, Bing and other search engines will actually penalise you and your website’s ranking if it picks up on duplicate content. If you are struggling, then use a professional copywriter.
